Weekends are for Rest

Posted on | August 30, 2010 | 2 Comments

Every weekend I go into it thinking, finally some rest. Not. But It’s always worth the lack of sleep. Friday night we enjoyed a beautiful evening at our school’s first home football game of the season. We live very close to the stadium and our backyard lends itself for a great tailgating location.

Saturday morning began with Grace and I hanging out at We Care Arts. We Care Arts is a non-profit organization that helps emotionally, mentally and physically disabled adults and youth achieve greater personal independence. Grace hopes to begin a long relationship of volunteering with We Care Arts. I highly recommend that you find an organization that your child can feel connected and get them involved. Grace and I had a blast making plaster cast hands that will be used for center pieces commissioned from company that promotes diversity in the workforce.

Saturday afternoon included a 1 1/2 hour car ride to a family reunion. Listening to stories about parents and grandparents growing up are a favorite. Always worth the trip.

After arriving home the back doorbell rang and to our surprise a visit from one of our very favorite friends, Chris Glass (pictured above with the pig skull – notice the bottom jaw – the dog was caught chewing it off.) Chris is an amazing photographer, designer, geek and all around amazing guy. His website is a must visit, but don’t leave comments. He doesn’t like comments:) I love comments. Please feel free to leave comments at this blog just to hear yourself comment:)

Let’s just say I didn’t get much sleep until today, Sunday. I’m still in my pajamas and not ashamed. Naps are my friend.

This coming week I am not creating a meal plan for dinners. We are so busy with school open houses, meetings, and volleyball games that dinner will be crazed and the school is sponsoring 2 cookouts. Also, remember that we live near the football stadium. The concession stands are open on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the fall for soccer games. Again, I’m not ashamed that I would send my kids up to the stadium for dinner. I do care about nutritious/healthy food, but I’m not insane. I’m an idiot, remember. However, I will be doing a lunch plan. The oldest 2 come home for lunch if they are not busy with a lunch time meeting. I’m always busy during lunch so you’ll see how incredibly easy our lunches are, yet nutritious.

Do you have any short cuts during the busy, crazy school days and evenings?

I’m so glad y’all were not only home that night, but able to set a spell on your patio. Miss having y’all just down the street but it’s always good to share a slice of time.

(Unrelated: thanks to you I rented that Miley Cyrus movie tonight and weeped like a teenage girl. They really should’ve called it Beaches II: Electric Boogaloo.)
